Performing Arts Academy
After having worked for a large corporation for 25 years, Barbara Johnson, partnering with her two daughters Sheenah and Kristen, was able to open her first dance academy on June 5, 1999. SheeKriStyle was started and it thrived in this cutting edge industry. On November 1, 2001, she opened her second site at 5740 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne, Indiana. She credits much of her success and expansion to assistance and heavy collaboration received through S.C.O.R.E., SBDC and the only women business center in Indiana, Women’s Enterprise.
Not only did Women’s Enterprise provide her with the necessary mentoring, counseling and collaboration in putting together a viable business plan, but also gainful employment which has allowed Barb to subsidize her business during the slow times. Through the many entrepreneurial workshops and training sessions presented by Women’s Enterprise coupled with the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce affiliation, Barb has developed a clientele resulting in almost 200 students between the two schools. Johnson is very satisfied with the employment obtained and the services provided by the many SBA resources. Her small business has resulted in the creation of seven-paid position. In those seven-paid position, she has given work opportunities to individuals to work in a field they love but is also able to make a living out of it.
Hats off to Women Enterprise because it allows Barb the opportunity to prove that “She’s been there, done that” when counseling with the many clients of Women’s Enterprise.
