Counseling & Community Resources

It is the mission of the counseling staff to relieve the trauma of sexual violence through individual, family, and/or group therapy. The program offers crisis counseling as well as on-going individual and group therapy sessions.

Crisis counseling, through trained rape crisis counselors, is available 24/7/365. To reach a trained counselor, call 260.426.RAPE (7273) or 888.311.RAPE (7273).

Ongoing counseling services are available to survivors of sexual assault. The goals of therapy are identified through client and counselor discussion. Treatment goals may include, but are not limited to, increasing self-esteem, identifying and implementing healthy coping skills, and decreasing the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Treatment is designed to achieve healthy day-to-day functioning for the survivor.

Counseling services are also available to friends and family members of survivors. In addition to PTSD education for significant others, the Rape Awareness Program provides a “whole family” approach to treatment as needed. With this approach, the counselor considers the client within her or his family system and thus may occasionally include dominant family members in therapy.

All individual counseling services are confidential, are only available by appointment, and are at no charge to the client.
