Since 1981, The Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, Rape Awareness Program has offered a continuum of services to the survivors of violence and their families. The program also offers outreach prevention / education programs that provide training/strategies for increased awareness of behaviors that minimize the risk of violence.
Whether you need information and referral, support during a crisis, confidential individual counseling, personal safety information or a self-defense class designed especially for your group, call us.

When violence strikes, life is never the same. The
most frequent reaction may be a cluster of symptoms
clinically known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Without effective intervention, such as counseling
or group therapy, this syndrome can become a
lifelong problem.
Behavioral Symptoms of PTSD include:

or staying asleep

panic attacks

irritability or
outbursts of anger

nightmares

flashbacks

difficulty
concentrating

symptoms of
physical illness

Abuse and Violence Prevention Programs
|

The Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau has provided abuse and
violence prevention and education programs to the
youth of our community since 1998. These programs
empower our youth by equipping them with tools,
knowledge and information to escape violence and
abuse. Programs are targeted to specific age groups
and address today’s environmental, cultural and
societal factors. All FWWB’s prevention programs
are provided on-site at local schools, businesses
and community organizations. |

radKIDS
is a national program which teaches grade-school
children how to Resist Aggression Defensively.
radKIDS learn to combine their own personal
abilities with new skills acquired in radKIDS
classes to escape the horrible realities of
abduction, bullying, school violence, child abuse
and neglect, sexual assault and manipulation.
Designed for children ages 5-12 and their parents,
this Personal Empowerment Safety Education
curriculum includes the following topics:

Home, school and
vehicle safety

Out and about
safety
-
Realistic defense
against abduction
-
Good, bad and
uncomfortable touch
Through radKIDS training, children become empowered
and learn to replace the fear, confusion and panic
of dangerous situations with confidence, personal
safety skills and positive self-esteem. |

Assault Awareness for Teens

This contemporary program, designed for middle and
high school students, teaches the skills to
recognize, avoid and safely react to unhealthy or
dangerous situations. The program is provided by
trained and knowledgeable facilitators and offers
frank discussion about the following topics:

personal safety
-
practical
self-defense

healthy dating
relationships

clear definition
of Indiana’s rape laws

sexual misconduct
with a minor

This program has been designed specifically for
young women entering college. The workshop provides
information that includes:

sexual assault and
rape awareness

personal safety

the role of
alcohol and drugs in campus assaults

information about sexual assault prevalence and
campus services specific to the participant’s
college
Participants receive Omega Self-Defense spray
courtesy of the Mayor’s Commission on Domestic
Violence, Rape and Sexual Harassment, and training
on its proper use. |
